Who we are

About Safe Steps Children’s Contact Services

Safe Steps Children’s Contact Services is an independent Children’s Contact Service based in Western Australia, supporting families through separation with professionally supervised contact and safe changeover arrangements.

We provide a secure and neutral environment where children can maintain meaningful contact, with all sessions managed by trained staff to ensure safety and consistency. Our service is child-focused, respectful, and aligned with best practice standards.

We work closely with parents, the Department of Communities (DoC), and legal professionals to deliver reliable and structured support tailored to each family’s needs.

What we offer

Comprehensive Supervised Contact and Family Support Services

Supervised Contact

Structured, in-person visits between children and non-residential parents in a safe and supportive setting. All sessions are professionally supervised to ensure the wellbeing of everyone involved.

Supervised Changeover

Safe and carefully managed handovers of children between parents without direct interaction. This helps reduce conflict and ensures a calm and controlled transition.

Off-Site Supervised Visits

Supervised visits conducted at approved community locations when suitable. These sessions provide a more flexible setting while maintaining safety and oversight.

Online Supervised Contact

Secure, video-based contact sessions allowing children and parents to stay connected when in-person visits are not possible. All sessions are monitored by trained staff.

Court Reports

Detailed and professional observational reports prepared for legal proceedings. These reports provide clear and objective insights based on supervised sessions.

Intake & Risk Assessment

Comprehensive initial assessment to understand each family’s situation and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place before services begin.

How It Works

Our process is designed to be clear, structured, and focused on the safety and wellbeing of children at every stage.

1. Referral Received

We receive a referral from the Department of Communities or an authorised source to begin the process.

2. Initial Contact

Our team contacts both parents separately to understand the situation and explain the next steps.

3. Assessment & Planning

A risk assessment is carried out and a tailored plan is developed to ensure safe and appropriate contact.

4. Sessions Begin

Supervised contact sessions or changeovers are scheduled and managed by trained staff in a safe environment.
