Safe Steps prepares clear, objective reports of supervised contact and changeover sessions for family law proceedings. Our reports give lawyers, independent children’s lawyers and the court a neutral record of what supervisors observed, for families across Perth and Western Australia.
What is a supervised contact court report?
A court report from a children’s contact service is a written record of what supervisors observed during supervised contact visits or changeovers. It gives lawyers, independent children’s lawyers and the court a neutral, first-hand account of how contact has gone over time.
What our reports include
Reports are factual and objective. Depending on what has been requested, they can cover:
- dates, times and attendance, including late arrivals, early finishes and cancellations
- how the child presented at arrival, during the visit and at departure
- observed interactions between the child and the visiting parent or family member
- whether any agreed conditions were followed
- any times the supervisor needed to intervene, and why
- changeover observations, where relevant
What our reports don’t include
Supervisors observe and record. Our reports don’t give opinions on parenting capacity, make recommendations about parenting arrangements, or provide psychological assessments. Those are matters for the court and appropriately qualified experts, such as family consultants or psychologists. Keeping our reports to the facts is what makes them useful and keeps our service neutral.
How observations are recorded
- Supervisors record observations during or soon after each supervised visit, changeover, off-site visit or online session.
- Notes describe what was seen and heard, in plain language, without taking sides.
- Reports are prepared from these records when requested by an authorised party, in line with our policies and any court orders.
Who can request a report
Reports are usually requested by family lawyers, independent children’s lawyers, the Department of Communities or the court, or are required by orders. If you’re a parent and need a report, talk to your lawyer about how to request one. Please let us know at referral if reports will be needed, so this can be planned from the start.
Cost of court reports
Report fees depend on the number of sessions covered and the detail requested. Your initial enquiry is free. Email info@safestepsccs.com.au for a quote.
